5 signs your electrical panel is due for an upgrade

1. Breakers trip more than once in a while

Once in a blue moon, fine — that's a breaker doing its job. If it's happening weekly, or every time you run the microwave and the toaster together, your panel is telling you it's undersized for what you're actually asking it to do.

2. You still have a fuse box, not breakers

If you're screwing in a fuse instead of flipping a breaker, that's an older system than most insurance companies want to see, and parts are getting harder to find. This one's less "maybe" and more "yes."

3. Your panel is a brand nobody stocks parts for anymore

A few older panel brands (you'll know if you have one — we'll tell you plainly if we see it) have known reliability issues and are genuinely harder to service safely over time. If that's what's behind your cover, it's worth prioritizing over other panels that are just old but otherwise fine.

4. You're adding something big — EV charger, hot tub, workshop

A 100-amp panel that's been fine for 20 years might not have room for a Level 2 EV charger on top of everything else. This is the most common reason we get called for upgrades that aren't emergencies — someone's about to add a big new load and wants to do it right.

5. A home inspector flagged it
